National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are work-related, competence based qualifications. They are sector specific, set by the industry themselves, and reflect the skills and knowledge required to do a job effectively. They are work based qualifications and as a result focus on practical performance as well as knowledge and understanding.
NVQs enable businesses to move ahead as staff will be more productive and gain the confidence to take on new roles and responsibilities. Staff motivation will be improved, which in turn will minimise staff turnover. In addition, they give employers the opportunity to develop an efficient multi-skilled workforce.

Business and Administration
NVQ Level 2 NVQ in Business and Administration.
There are 4 mandatory units in the Business & Administration NVQ Level 2 which cover:
- Manage own performance in a business environment
- Improve own performance in a business environment
- Work in a business environment
- Communicate in a business environment
Plus optional units (example of the types of units you could choose from below):
- Store and retrieve information
- Use office equipment
- Solve business problems
- Produce documents in a business environment
- Support the organisation of meetings

NVQ Level 3 in Business & Administration
The 4 mandatory units from the NVQ Level 3 which cover:
- Manage own performance in a business environment
- Evaluate and improve own performance in a business environment
- Work in a business environment
- Communicate in a business environment

- Solve business problems
- Supervise an office facility
- Plan and organise meetings
- Develop a presentation

Customer Service
NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service.
There are 2 mandatory units in the NVQ Level 2 which cover:

- Theme: Impression and image
- Theme: Delivery
- Theme: Handling Problems
- Theme: Development and improvement
NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service
There are 2 mandatory units in the NVQ Level 3 which cover:
- Understand customer service to improve service delivery
- Know the rules to follow when developing customer service
Plus, 6 optional units to choose from 4 themes (the themes are listed below)
- Theme: Impression and image
- Theme: Delivery

Motor Vehicle
Light Vehicle and Heavy Vehicle
There are 7 different units in the NVQ Level 2 which cover:
- Routine vehicle maintenance

- Removing and replacing electrical components
- Pre and post work inspection
- Removing and replacing vehicle transmissions
- Vehicle valeting

NVQ Level 2 in Vehicle Parts Operations
NVQ units covered include:
- Good housekeeping
- Maintain good working relationships
- Select and issue vehicle parts

- Receive and store parts
- Process returned goods and materials
- Display stock to promote sales
